Magiciada Citizen Science Workshops and Walks:

Magicicada Citizen Science Workshop: Sunday, May 19, 1:00pm
Staten Island Museum, 75 Stuyvesant Place
Calling all citizen scientists to count periodical cicadas during this year’s Brood II emergence.  Get trained to identify periodical cicadas and to gather data as we estimate the number of cicadas that emerge. Materials will be provided. For more information call Ed Johnson at 718.483.7110.

CICADA Walks All Spring!
The Great Cicada Walk! Sunday, June 9, 9:00am – 11:00pm
Long Pond Park
Visit the south shore’s CICADA HOTSPOTS with Ed Johnson, Director of Natural Science.  The woodlands surrounding Long Pond hosted all three species of periodical cicadas during the 1996 emergence.  Let’s discover which species are found this time around.  Meet at PS 6 on Page Ave. For more information call Seth Wollney at 718.483.7105.
Cicada Mania Continues! Saturday, June 15, 10:00am
Walk through Buck’s Hollow, where in 1979 and 1996 all three periodical cicada species were found. Meet at the intersection of Meisner & Rockland Aves. For more information call Ed Johnson at 718.483.7110.
